Correction and Retraction
Correction and Retraction
Preventif: Jurnal Kesehatan Masyarakat is committed to maintaining an accurate and trustworthy publication record. When concerns arise after publication, the journal will assess the evidence and take action appropriate to the nature and significance of the issue.
Corrections and retractions protect the scientific record and inform readers. They are not intended as punishment.
-
Reporting an Error or Concern
Authors, readers, reviewers, and other parties may report errors or concerns to:
Email: preventifjournal.fkm@gmail.com
Suggested email subject: Correction or Retraction Request – Article Title or DOI
Reports should identify the article, describe the concern, and provide supporting evidence where available. Authors must promptly inform the journal when they discover a significant error in their published work.
-
Editorial Assessment
The editor will examine the concern, request clarification from the authors, and seek independent expertise or institutional findings where necessary.
Authors will be given an opportunity to respond. Editors with a conflict of interest must withdraw from handling the case.
The journal will distinguish errors, scientific disagreements, and concerns about research integrity. A finding of misconduct is not required before taking action to address unreliable results.
-
Corrections
A correction may be published when an error affects the accuracy or interpretation of an article but does not invalidate its main findings.
Examples include errors in reported values, figures, tables, author information, acknowledgments, funding statements, or conflict of interest declarations.
The correction notice will identify the article, explain the change, and state its implications where relevant. Changes to authorship require supporting documentation and appropriate agreement.
Minor typographical or formatting errors that do not affect meaning may be corrected without a separate notice. Substantive changes must be documented transparently.
-
Expressions of Concern
An expression of concern may be issued when substantial questions about an article remain unresolved, evidence is inconclusive, or a relevant investigation is ongoing or substantially delayed.
The notice will explain the concern without presenting unverified allegations as established facts. The journal will reassess the notice when sufficient information becomes available.
-
Retractions
Retraction may be appropriate when:
• Major errors or fabricated or falsified data make the findings unreliable.
• Substantial plagiarism or undisclosed redundant publication is established.
• Serious ethical breaches undermine the acceptability of the research.
• Manipulation has compromised the peer-review or publication process.
• Other substantial evidence shows that the article cannot be relied upon.
A disclosed conflict of interest does not automatically justify retraction. Its significance and effect on the work must be assessed.
Authorship disputes alone will normally be addressed through clarification, institutional investigation, or correction when the findings remain reliable.
-
Notices and Access
Correction notices, expressions of concern, and retraction notices will be clearly labelled, dated, and linked to the affected article.
Retraction notices will explain the reason and identify who is issuing the retraction. Author agreement will be sought, but a justified editorial action does not depend on unanimous consent.
Retracted articles will ordinarily remain accessible and be clearly marked as retracted. Content removal will be considered only in exceptional circumstances, with an explanatory notice retained where possible.
-
Reconsideration
Requests for reconsideration must identify new evidence or a material procedural error and be sent to the journal email. An uninvolved editor or publisher representative will assess the request.
-
Guidance
The journal will consult relevant guidance from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
