Authorship Criteria and Contributorship
Effective Date and Implementation
This policy will apply to articles published in the 2027 issues of Preventif: Jurnal Kesehatan Masyarakat, beginning with the first issue of 2027. Authors whose manuscripts are being processed for these issues will be required to meet the authorship criteria and provide an Author Contributions statement before publication.
The requirements below are announced in advance and will become mandatory for the 2027 issues. They do not retrospectively impose new submission requirements on articles published before 2027. Authorship concerns involving earlier publications will be considered under the policies applicable at the time of publication and relevant publication ethics guidance.
-
General Principles
Preventif: Jurnal Kesehatan Masyarakat promotes transparent authorship and accurate recognition of contributions. Authorship provides academic credit and carries responsibility for the published work. The author list must reflect actual contributions and must be agreed upon by all authors.
-
Authorship Criteria
The journal’s authorship criteria follow the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Every author must meet all four requirements:
• Make a substantial contribution to the research concept or design, or to data collection, analysis, or interpretation.
• Draft the manuscript or critically revise its intellectual content.
• Approve the final manuscript for publication.
• Accept accountability for the work and cooperate in investigating and resolving concerns about its accuracy or integrity.
All individuals who meet these requirements must be included as authors. Contributors meeting the first requirement should have an opportunity to participate in manuscript preparation, revision, and final approval.
-
Author Contributions
Manuscripts intended for publication in the 2027 issues onward must include an Author Contributions statement identifying each author’s roles. The statement should appear before the References section.
Authors are encouraged to use the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT):
• Conceptualization
• Data curation
• Formal analysis
• Funding acquisition
• Investigation
• Methodology
• Project administration
• Resources
• Software
• Supervision
• Validation
• Visualization
• Writing – original draft
• Writing – review and editing
An author may perform several roles, and a role may be shared by multiple authors. Only applicable roles should be reported. Assigning a CRediT role does not, by itself, establish eligibility for authorship.
All authors must review and approve the contribution statement.
-
Corresponding Author
The corresponding author manages communication with the journal during submission, peer review, revision, and publication.
The corresponding author must ensure that author information is accurate, all authors approve the submission and final manuscript, and required declarations are completed. The corresponding author must remain available after publication to respond to editorial queries and coordinate responses from co-authors.
-
Acknowledgments
Contributors who do not meet all four authorship criteria should be recognized in the Acknowledgments section, with a description of their assistance and their permission to be named.
Funding acquisition, general supervision, administrative support, technical assistance, language editing, or proofreading alone does not qualify an individual for authorship.
-
Author Order and Changes
Authors must jointly agree on the order of names before submission. The journal does not determine author order.
Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must include:
• An explanation of the proposed change.
• Written agreement from all listed authors and any individual being added or removed.
• An updated Author Contributions statement, where applicable.
Changes require editorial approval. Changes after publication may require a formal correction notice.
-
Inappropriate Authorship and Disputes
Gift, honorary, guest, and ghost authorship are unacceptable. Individuals must not be included solely because of their position, status, personal relationship, or financial support. Individuals who meet the authorship criteria must not be deliberately excluded.
The journal may request contribution statements and supporting explanations when concerns arise. Unresolved disputes should be referred to the relevant institutions for investigation, as editors cannot independently determine disputed contributions.
Manuscript processing may be paused while clarification is sought. Concerns affecting published articles will be assessed to determine whether a correction or other editorial action is necessary.
-
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors because they cannot accept responsibility for the work.
Authors must disclose relevant use of AI-assisted tools in manuscript preparation or research activities. Human authors remain responsible for the accuracy, originality, references, and integrity of all submitted content.
